The Bri­ar Cliff Uni­ver­si­ty OTD Pro­gram is a devel­op­ing pro­gram that is cur­rent­ly in the pre-can­di­da­cy review stage of accred­i­ta­tion. The pro­gram is slat­ed to sub­mit their accred­i­ta­tion can­di­da­cy appli­ca­tion to ACOTE in August 2022. The BCU OTD pro­gram antic­i­pates the abil­i­ty to start review­ing stu­dent appli­ca­tions in the Fall of 2022 and to start accept­ing stu­dents into the pro­gram by Jan­u­ary 2023. The antic­i­pat­ed start date for the first OTD stu­dent cohort is in June 2023. 

The devel­op­ing OTD pro­gram aligns with the mis­sion and val­ues of the larg­er Bri­ar Cliff Uni­ver­si­ty insti­tu­tion. Locat­ed in Sioux City, Iowa, Bri­ar Cliff University’s Mis­sion is to pro­mote a com­mu­ni­ty com­mit­ted to high­er edu­ca­tion with a lib­er­al arts and Catholic per­spec­tive. In the Fran­cis­can tra­di­tion of ser­vice, car­ing and open­ness to all, Bri­ar Cliff empha­sizes qual­i­ty edu­ca­tion for its stu­dent, com­bin­ing a broad intel­lec­tu­al back­ground with career devel­op­ment. The Uni­ver­si­ty chal­lenges its mem­bers to grow in self-aware­ness and in their rela­tion­ship to oth­ers and to God.

Occu­pa­tion­al Ther­a­py edu­ca­tion at St. Ambrose Uni­ver­si­ty began in 1989 at the Bach­e­lors lev­el offer­ing a B.S. in OT degree. The cur­ricu­lum tran­si­tioned to the MOT lev­el in 1998 and to the OTD lev­el in 2016.
