Presentation objectives:
  1. Participants will compare and contrast the social model of disability with the medical model of disability as part of the Neurodiversity Movement.
  2. Participants will analyze Milton's "double empathy problem" and other access barriers for autistic individuals.
  3. Participants will understand basic elements of autistic communication and culture as differences, not deficits.
  4. Participants will reflect on the relationship between poor mental health and compliance-based approaches for autistic individuals.
  5. Participants will analyze when and how to utilize affirming, strengths-based language such as identity-first language.
  6. Participants will develop practical, strengths-based strategies to incorporate in assessment and intervention with autistic clients.
